NEA Big Read 2021: Silver Sparrow

Join Town & Gown Council in the joy of sharing a good book! UCF is one of 84 communities nationwide participating in the National Endowment for the Arts’ Big Read. The NEA Big Read: Central Florida will celebrate Tayari Jones’ novel Silver Sparrow.

First up for Town & Gown is a virtual book club to read and discuss _Silver Sparrow. _The book “unveils a breathtaking story about a man’s deception, a family’s complicity, and the teenage girls caught in the middle. Set in a middle-class neighborhood in Atlanta in the 1980s, the novel revolves around James Witherspoon’s families – the public one and the secret one. When the daughters from each family meet and form a friendship, only one of them knows they are sisters.” Books will be provided to T&G members free of charge at either the Dec 8th Holiday Tea Caravan or by mail. Books are limited to the first 25 members! The virtual book club will be facilitated by UCF faculty in mid-January and more details will be forthcoming. Reserve your copy by registering here.
